Today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite items.

Not only does it help me stay organized and get things done effectively it can be a pleasure to use.

What is this wonderful tool, you ask.

Well its just a small note book and and a pen that I enjoy writing with.

I've bought a lot of notebooks and drawing pads over the years and I've really been able to zero in on what happens to work best for me, and maybe it'll work for you as well.

I find these small 3.5"x5" notepads to be the most useful for me. They can slip right into my back pocket and I hardly notice its even there.

Why even use a notebook though when I have a cell phone with all kinds of note taking and scheduling apps?

Distraction.

There are just way to many distractions available on my phone to use it for scheduling and note taking, my notebook isn't going to buzz and ring and take my attention away from what I'm focused on. I'm not going to "check something real quick" and then get sucked into scrolling in a notepad.

Check my post about minimalist phone launcher apps here, to better manage your screen time.

But back to notebooks

These little ones are great.

I like to just buy them by the bundle, you can get them pretty cheap on amazon.

Having a few of these around is handy since they are small enough that I can keep them to one subject, for example I toss one of these in my gym bag that way I can note down what I did that day or jot down an idea for something I'm working on, when the idea crosses my mind.

Bundling a few of these together in a leather jacket is really handy and I glad I finally pick one these up.

I'll keep two or three of these little notebooks together, and I can keep them catagoriezed.

I'll keep one for anything work related, list of what I need and long long I'm spending on projects, and anything I may need later.

Another for general day to day list and general note taking, journaling.

Another for contact info

Another for finances.

Another for Drawing.

Another for working on my car or bikes

Begin able to swap these notebooks in and out of the jacket easily is really appealing at least for me. One it keep me from walking around with a little book busting at the seems, and I can keep other info safely stored away when I don't need it on me.

Also if I'm selecting which notebook I'm going to carry I can narrow my focus on what I'm writing down or referencing back to.

Which is great for reducing distractions when I'm trying to focus one something.

So if your looking to reduce the distractions in your life or just gather your thoughts, maybe even do a little drawing. Grabbing a little pocket notebook can be a great investment. Maybe you'll just stop forgetting things at the grocery store, or maybe you'll getting way more than you though you could done. Either way getting something you'd actually enjoy using is something I recommend.
